Six people had been arrested on the day of the incident. Speaking on how they were nabbed, he said, they first arrested one of them, a Ugandan, who led the police to the hotel where the others were arrested. He explained that they were foreigners who were in the state for an economic programme. It would be recalled that two deadly improvised explosive devices (IEDs) had been discovered by the Imo state police at the Living Faith church but they were detonated by the anti-bomb squad deployed to the church thereby averting an explosion that would have killed many. The bombs were said to have the capacity to demolish within 500 metres range and would have been a disaster had they exploded, as the church where they were planted is located in a densely populated area of the state.

Uruguayan Luis Suarez has been banned by FIFA for four months and nine games for biting Italian and Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay crucial game against Italy. The incident occurred in the 79th minute of Uruguay’s crucial 1-0 win over Italy, which sent them through to the second round. Chiellini had signaled to the refree and showed the bite marks on his shoulder but the Mexican referee Marco Rodriguez did not look into the matter. After public cries and concern, FIFA then decided to launch an investigation and gave the Uruguay team till 5pm (9pm GMT) Thursday to present their defence. Suarez was absent during the defence but Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) board member Alejandro Balbi said that 27 year-old Suarez came out worse from the confrontation and that Suarez was being victimized by the English, Italian and Brazilian media after he had knocked the two Super powers out of the tourney. FIFA however decided enough is enough and have taken the hard stance on Suarez, this being the third time he has been found guilty of the same crime.

144 of 486 Northern Travellers Arrested In Abia Freed As FG Debunks Report Of Fresh Mass Abduction In Borno

                                                           

The Federal Government Wednesday, said that 144 of 486 intercepted travellers to Abia State, have been released.

The coordinator, National Information Centre, Mr Mike Omeri, stated this yesterday while briefing the press on the current security situation in the country.

He said one of the suspects connected with Boko Haram had been named and investigation was ongoing to unravel the circumstances.

Speaking on the alleged abduction of 60 women and children in Borno, last week, Omeri disagreed, pointing out that there was no sufficient evidence to prove the abduction actually took place.

He said: “Our findings also corroborated the position of the Borno State government, as conveyed by Governor Kashim Shettima, who said that there are no sufficient facts on the alleged abduction of 60 persons”.

As am writing this post, I certainly don’t know the outcome of the Argentina-Nigeria encounter. Unfortunately, it barely matters for the well being of our now ill-fated Nation.

We have seen Nigerians try to console themselves that a triumph in Brazil for the SuperEagles could ameliorate the current predicament the country is facing in the hands of Boko Haram.
Sadly it doesn’t seem so. Infact, we are heading to a disastrous campaign where not even a shiny World Cup trophy can solve our problems.

Sagna: “Am not Greedy”

                                                      

Former Arsenal right back Bacary Sagna has launched an attack to the Arsenal faithful naming him “Greedy” because of his imminent move to Manchester City. Excluj.blogspot.com understands.
The French defender believes he’s not joining the Citizens because of financial reasons.

“I’m going to clear everything up because I keep reading that I did it for money and I’m greedy,” said Sagna following France’s World Cup draw with Ecuador at the Maracana.
“What I want to say is I stayed with Arsenal with the same contract since 2008 and I never asked for more money.

“For people who think it’s for money, it’s not. I just wanted to change. I needed a boost in my career and I think it was about time.”
“It was not an easy time because we were still involved in the FA Cup and it was hard to stay focused,” he added.

The police are also said to be spraying bullets to disperse the youths.

NDLEA Arrest 11 Children, Hotel Manager Over Drug Abuse

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Monday said it has arrested 11 children and the manager of a hotel in Kaduna over alleged drug abuse and trafficking .

The Kaduna State Commander of the agency, Mohammed Jibrin, disclosed this in Kaduna while briefing newsmen on activities marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The theme for the celebration is, “A Message of Hope: Drug Use Disorders Are Preventable and Treatable’’.
Jibrin said the children, seven girls and four boys, were arrested in a hotel room taking psychotropic substance.
He said eight of the arrested children were still in junior classes, adding that their parents had been invited to the command for questioning and counselling.
“Hard drug abuse is a universal phenomenon that cuts across all levels and strata of the society; It is no respecter of age, s*x, religion, ethnicity or nationality.
“However, a greater percentage of those that fall prey to this nefarious scourge is the youth.
“The fact that the youths represent the future workforce and leaders in any society makes it absolutely necessary to find lasting solution to the drug phenomenon,” he said.
Jibrin disclosed that between January and May, the command arrested 210 drug suspects, including five female, with various illicit drugs weighing over 1074.02kg.
He said that 80 of them had been convicted and were serving various prison term.
Jibrin said that the command had also discovered and sealed an illegal laboratory in Zaria, manufacturing fake drugs.
According to him, the laboratory produces drugs from ordinary powder, expired chemicals and substances that are detrimental to human health.
Jibrin said the command was also involved in the rehabilitation of drug addicts.
“The agency, offers counselling and rehabilitation services to those that have fallen victim to drugs and cannot seem to find a way out.
“The Drug Demand Reduction Unit of the command has admitted 64 of such addicts since January 2014.
“A total of 37 addicts have been counselled, rehabilitated and reintegrated back into the society.
“There are currently 20 addicts in our facility undergoing this process in Zaria,” he said.
Jibrin stressed the need for communities, parents and other stakeholder to support the fight against drug abuse and trafficking to reduce the menace in the state. [NAN]
