Polls: Army chief warns politicians against inciting violence

2015-election
Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General KT Minimah has declared that any politician or group of politicians who instigate violence during the elections should be ready to face organized violence in return.
“Regarding the question of security before, during and post elections, I want to say the Armed Forces, the Police and other security organisations have made adequate arrangements for security during the general and local elections in a few days and a few weeks coming,” he said.
“I do not envisage any issues because this is just an election and it will come and go; though we know there are also elements within the political class that will not want a normal election process to come and be put behind us.
“I will appeal to politicians and their followers and supporters to keep the peace; maintain the peace and ensure a violence-free election. I will appeal to law-abiding Nigerians to come out en-masse, vote for candidates of their choice without fear of intimidation, without fear for their safety. It is their right to vote.
“And whoever wants to invoke or provoke violence would meet organised violence waiting for him. Whoever threatens violence will meet violence.”
When asked why soldiers are still on the streets when a court order had barred them from elections, Minimah said: “I can interpret it this way. This is not our first elections in this country. You have seen several elections in Nigeria and you have seen soldiers providing security for the elections. Have you at any time seen soldiers at polling booths? Have you seen soldiers counting ballots or carrying ballot materials, ballot papers, ballot boxes or whatever?”

FG planning to arrest APC leaders, Tinubu alleges

National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, yesterday, said Federal Government was planning to arrest leaders of his party ahead of Saturday’s election. However, he said he was ready for arrest.
Speaking at the 7th Annual Bola Tinubu Colloquium in Lagos to mark his 63rd birthday, the former governor of Lagos State said the plot will not silence him.
He insisted that the APC had a better ticket in Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) and Professor Yemi Osinbajo than the President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo’s team of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Also speaking at the event, Buhari said the seamless manner APC merger was consummated and the pedigree and long-time service of the leaders will yield electoral dividends for the party.
“This was possible because of their personal service in their constituencies. They have served people so much that they have developed so much confidence in them.
“Though there have been previous mergers but they never materialized. And the most interesting thing is that we looked at the opposition parties, and we realized that none of them can compete with PDP.
“And during the merger, some of the parties had court cases that could delay the merger. So we constituted committees in each of the parties and they provided their terms of references. And I was told by Chief Bisi Akande that some of the parties are demanding for certain positions. But I said that the most important thing is that the merger must works. And after that, we will sit down and decide on each demand.
“All my previous attempt to defeat PDP ended up at the Supreme Court. But with this merger, we have done the right job. With the merger, we are witnessing progresses and come Saturday, we will succeed at the polls by God’s grace.”
APC stalwarts present at the event include National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun; former Interim National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande; former Governor of Ekiti and Osun states. Dr. Kayode Fayemi and Segun Oni, respectively; wife of Ogun State Governor, Mrs Olufunsho Amosun; mother of the Vice Presidential candidate, Mrs Bisi Osinbajo; Prof Pat Utomi and Chief Lanre Rasaq.

Thorgan Hazard signs for Bundesliga club

Thorgan Hazard has today signed for Borussia Monchengladbach, with Chelsea having the right to exercise a future buy-back option.
Hazard initially joined the Bundesliga club at the start of the season on loan.
The 21-year-old Belgian signed for Chelsea in 2012 - the same summer as older brother Eden.
He immediately joined Belgian top-flight club SV Zulte Waregem on loan for two seasons, where he finished as a league runner up, with his form earning individual honours and a senior international cap in May 2013.
Chelsea Football Club wishes Thorgan well for the future and will continue to monitor his progress.

Jose Mourinho's 'campaign' comments come full circle as referee Anthony Taylor takes charge of Capital One Cup final against Tottenham

Jose Mourinho's recent fury at referees reached new heights this weekend in Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Burnley - and by coincidence the man who helped set it all off will be back in the Chelsea boss' firing line at Wembley on Sunday.
Anthony Taylor - the man who booked Cesc Fabregas for diving in Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Southampton in December - is the referee for the Capital One Cup final that pits Chelsea against Tottenham.
The 36-year-old official apologised to Mourinho for his mistake after the Portuguese coach slammed Taylor and said he would be 'ashamed' of the decision.

The Special One also said that a campaign had been started against his Chelsea players after the latest in a string of allegations that they were prone to cheating - comments that led to a £25,000 fine from the FA.
'It is a scandal,' Mourinho said at the time. 'I think it is clearly the result of something that looks like a campaign.

'The reality there are penalties and penalties - this one was a huge one. It was not just a small penalty. It was a penalty like Big Ben. In other countries this is front-page news because it's an absolute scandal.
'Match after match coaches are telling Chelsea players are diving. I will go to the referee and wish him a good year and tell him he will be ashamed.'

'The problem is the incidents I'm speaking about and probably now I'm risking my dugout in the final,' he said. 'Maybe tomorrow I have the risk of being suspended because I'm having this conversation.'

5 Reasons D’banj and Don Jazzy should Work Together Again

Dbanj_Jazzy

What would a Don Jazzy produced D’banj track sound like today? Will we ever get to hear another record from both of them?
A lot of hyperbole has been stated all over the place about how Don Jazzy needs D’banj and vice versa, but in reality Don Jazzy has gone on to create the most sturdy music label/crew in the Nigerian music industry and D’banj has established himself as the most relevant Nigerian/Artist on an international level. They are both successful at the goals that they had set for themselves, but we would like to get one or more records from both of them for the reasons listed below.

1. Make it the 10th Year Anniversary gift to the fans

DonJazzy_Dbanj
Let’s not act like D’banj is the only one who has been in the Nigerian Music industry for 10 years. He and Don Jazzy entered the game together which means Jazzy’s 10th year anniversary needs to be celebrated too, but will he?
I think the smartest way Don Jazzy should celebrate his 10th year anniversary is to drop a BIG tune with D’banj. Just imagine what a D’banj and Don Jazzy song will sound like today? They both need to do this regardless of the money, personal issues or differences, and just celebrate a decade of being successful in the Nigerian Music Industry by serving a HOT new tune.

2. The Fans Want and Deserve it

Dbanj Don Jazzy
“Don Baba J” and “Banga Lee” really need to do this for the Fans. We respect and appreciate the current players in the Nigerian music industry, but we are all clamoring for a D’banj and Don Jazzy record where the raw talent of Don Jazzy will meet the High Energy of the entertainer D’banj. No one can do it better than both of them and the fans would love to listen to a 2015 Don Jazzy and D’banj collabo… and also see them together on stage ONE MORE TIME. #DoItForTheFans

3. They will create Magic

DonJazzy_Dbanj_Awards
The feelings we all get when we remember the massive tunes these 2 have delivered when Mo’hits was still alive: Tongolo, Mobolowowon, Suddenly, Why Me, Gbono Feli Feli, Fall in Love, Igwe, Scape Goat, Mr Endowed, Oliver Twist.. We don’t want to imagine the magic, let us experience it. The fans would love a 2015 experience of magic delivered by Don Jazzy and D’banj.

4. To Unite their fans

DonJazzy and Dbanj
Obviously, when Mo’hits separated, people in the camp gravitated to a certain person and took their respective sides. The same thing happened with their fans as the D’banj fans no longer see eye to eye with Don Jazzy fans when either of their “Artiste” releases content.
Just see these sample comments on a D’banj Post belowDonJazzyandDbanj_Comment
Every time a Mavin Records single drops, the D’banj fans or trolls leave comments putting down the Mavins and exalting D’banj while the same thing happens when D’banj releases any type of material; the Mavin goons come on the site and destroy the morale of the D’banj fans. That being said, when a song created by Don Jazzy and D’banj drops, both of their fans will have no option than to co-exist and unite; similar to what happens when the Super Eagles of Nigeria are playing football.

5. It will encourage a 9ice and Id Cabassa Re-Union

Cabasa_9ice
If in fact Don Jazzy and D’banj decide to release at least ONE single in 2015, I suspect that we will get to hear an organic 9ice and ID Cabassa product. You know what happens when 9ice and Cabassa create organic music… if you don’t, go and listen to the Gongo Aso album to understand. It will definitely be a spearheading attempt at creating more classic materials in 2015.
Do you want to see D’banj and Don Jazzy Work Together Again? Comment below.
Perhaps both parties will see it and get encouraged to actually get in the studio to create a magical single in 2015.

I’ll Make Ogun An Oil-Producing State, Says PDP Gov. Candidate, Isiaka

Gboyega IsiakaThe governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Mr. Gboyega Isiaka, on Thursday said if elected next month in the general elections, his administration would make Ogun an oil-producing state.
Speaking during a parley with workers’ union under the aegis of the Trade Union Congress in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Isiaka accused the incumbent Governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun of making life hard for workers in the state by denying them their entitlements.
The PDP candidate, who expressed concern over the fall in federal allocation and economic downturn, said his administration would explore viable revenue generation opportunities in the state.
He also promised to provide better welfare package for workers in the state if elected.
The meeting, which attracted the leadership of many labour groups, was led by the Ogun State TUC Chairman, Seyi Adebanjo, who chided the outgoing government for neglecting the welfare of workers in the state.
Isiaka said, “We have to be creative and look inwards in making more economic opportunities for ourselves in view of the current global economic downturn we may face this year. To this end, I will pursue the objective of making Ogun State an oil-producing state to make the state better for the future generations. We can make the cake bigger by also pursuing the bitumen deposits in Ogun East and the Olokola Export Processing Zone project.
“It is unfortunate that we have a government that has been irresponsible and reckless in its handling of the state’s finances. I want to assure you all that under my watch, the welfare of workers and, indeed, everyone in the state will be enhanced through the four pillars of my ‘Life More Abundant’ manifesto”.
Isiaka, who is an investment banker and former Managing Director of Gateway Holdings, also promised to help Ogun State workers to access the National Housing Fund to enable them build their own houses.
In his remarks, the state TUC chairman berated Gov. Amosun for failing to aid workers in the areas of housing and other indices of human welfare. He, therefore, urged Isiaka to give governance a human face when elected into office.
“Our situation has never been this bad since the creation of the state, where workers are treated as slaves. Many statutory emoluments have not been paid since 2012 while the remittances and deductions are nowhere to be found”, Adebanjo said.

Buhari To Record Message In Hausa For Broadcast In The North Urging Peaceful Elections

muhammadu-buhariOfficials of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have blamed the incident in some parts of the North where objects were thrown at a campaign convoy of Presudent Goodluck Jonathan on fifth columnists within the president’s own Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Nonetheless, the officials disclosed that the party’s presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) is seriously concerned about the incident, and his reaction is expected to be recorded in Hausa before the end of Friday to be broadcast on radio stations across the North, urging people to understand the need for a peaceful election and not to foment trouble.
The Director-General of Buhari’s campaign organization, Malam Garba Shehu, who made this position known, said the message would also be translated into English to ensure Nigerians understand the need for a rancor-free atmosphere not only for election period but including life and living before and after the elections.
He, however, pointed to the fact that grudges created within PDP across the country as a result of its primaries may also be responsible for the attacks on the presidential convoy.
Shehu reminded journalists that the APC came out and condemned violence of any kind after the stone throwing incident in Katsina noting that violence is totally unacceptable to the opposition party.
The APC campaign spokesman recalled that a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed after the Katsina incident, said President Jonathan should be free to campaign anywhere in the country without hindrance.

Rapper Tiny Doo facing long prison sentence over lyrics

'I feel like they're trying to eradicate black men'

Song lyrics that glorify violence are hardly uncommon. But a prosecutor in California says one rapper's violent lyrics go beyond creative license to conspiracy.
San Diego-based rapper Tiny Doo has already spent eight months in prison, and faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted under a little-known California statute that makes it illegal to benefit from gang activities.
The statute in question is California Penal Code 182.5. The code makes it a felony for anyone to participate in a criminal street gang, have knowledge that a street gang has engaged in criminal activity, or benefit from that activity.
It's that last part -- benefiting from criminal activity -- that prosecutors are going after the rapper for.
Tiny Doo, whose real name is Brandon Duncan, faces nine counts of criminal street gang conspiracy because prosecutors allege he and 14 other alleged gang members increased their stature and respect following a rash of shootings in the city in 2013.
Prosecutors point to Tiny Doo's album, "No Safety," and to lyrics like "Ain't no safety on this pistol I'm holding" as examples of a "direct correlation to what the gang has been doing."
No one suggests the rapper ever actually pulled a trigger.
In fact, Duncan may rap about violence but he's got no criminal record.
Duncan told CNN's Don Lemon he's just "painting a picture of urban street life" with his lyrics.
"The studio is my canvas. I'm just painting a picture," he said. "I'm not telling anybody to go out and kill somebody."
He denied any involvement with any gang but said the prosecution has him concerned about future creative expression.
"I would love to continue to rap," he said. "But these people have you scared to do anything around here."
Prosecutors say lyrics aren't the only evidence they have. At Duncan's preliminary hearing, they presented social media posts that they say prove Duncan is still a gang member.
CNN Legal Analyst Mark Geragos says the district attorney may be trying to send a message "that you shouldn't glorify or glamorize gang activity."
"The problem is you're going to run straight head-on into the First Amendment," he said. "If they don't have anything other than the album, this case I don't think would ever stand up."

Ebola vaccine to be tested in Africa

The world is a lot closer to having a real weapon to fight Ebola. Vaccine doses should arrive in West Africa Friday.

Researches reported Tuesday that the Ebola virus strain that's killed more than 8,600 people in West Africa is mutating in a way that could make experimental drugs less likely to help. The researches added that they had found 10 new mutations that might interfere with how three of the most advanced...
